is photography art?


someone at work and i were debating/discussing a few topics (all relating to the art world). the last topic that was thrown into the conversation (per him) was regarding photography. his opening line: "not all photography is art".

his bottom line is "i'm not going to walk into a gallery and see photos of food, or some sort of advertisement"

what is your opinion? is photography ART?

Art: "the use of skill and
imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences
that can be shared with others."
